Are you curious about the 2012 Subarus?
Many people are so here is a short summary. Not much is known yet
so a lot of this early info is speculation and subject to frequent updating
and change.
If you are planning to get a Subaru and
trying to decide to wait or not, the 2011s are a fine choice.
2012 is going to be the Year of the Impreza
and Subaru is very hush-hush about all the other models.
No major changes on other models are expected
but there is always a very active rumor mill regarding new Subarus. Sometime
the rumors are pure speculation and other times it turns out to have some
truth, but again, nothing has been announced or confirmed for models other
than the 2012 Impreza that I am aware of.
The March earthquake and resulting factory closures and parts shortages has slowed down and pushed back the introduction of 2012 models.

8/9 the 2012
Outback uses the same 4 cylinder engine as the 2011. It was rumored the
Outback and Legacy would get the new engine used in the Forester, but they
didn't.
New stereo with LCD display
and HD radio,
New power fold-in mirrors.
7/25 Rumored-
new colors supposedly include a new deep indigio pearl, and new ice silver
metallic. Gone- azurite blue and steel silver
7/16: 2012s expected
to arrive mid-late September.
No changes have been annlounced.
This is the 3rd year for
the current models.
Usually the new model year Outback
and Legacy arrives in July or late June, this year they are expected around
September/October with 2011s continuing to be shipped until that time depending
on 2011 part availability.
Its anticipated
the 12s will get the new 2.5L engine (the FB25) used in the 2011 Forester.
In
the past, other 3rd year models have gotten minor upgrades and tweaks such
as a slightly redesigned grill or taillights or alloy wheels. Perhaps there
will be a new stereo that includes Bluetooth or USB on more models, or
perhaps there will be HD radio. Colors might change.
The
Touring model is now top of the line on Forester and Tribeca, perhaps they
will drop the Outback/Legacy Limited or add a new top of the line model.

8/9 No CVT or other major changes for
2012
7/25 Colors- really good
news, supposedly there will be only one silver. New Ice Silver Metallic;
gone
is the 2 confusion of having 2 silvers- Spark Silver and Steel Silver.
also gone is Paprika Red Pearl
7/16: 2012s expected to arrive
late October-November.
No changes announced.
4th year for the current model. A CVT
could give the Forester class-leading MPG and really boost sales, but we'll
probably have to go another year with the dependable workhorse 4 speed
Sportshift automatic. The 12 Forester is expected to be very similar to
the 11 with no major upgrades. Its still a winner. The 2013 should be a
5 year redesign, and one can always hope it arrives early like a summertime
Santa Claus.

STI, please visit www.cars101.com/subaru/wrxsti/wrxsti2012.html
Orders on WRX/STI should be accepted early November and 2012s expected to start arriving late October-November
7/30/11 Canadian WRX/STI model email.
There's an email teaser online about 2012 Canadian model WRX and STI.
The email would seem to be real though
it
might not be correct for US models.
It would seem to confirm there are very
few changes for the 12s- and none are needed since they are great cars!
A new Navigation system is offered and that would be good.
On colors, the new ice silver metallic
replaces spark silver metallic.Obsidian black has possibly been dropped
and replaced by new Deep Cherry Pearl? It would seem other colors remain
the same.
Since the 12s are expected in late October,
Subaru doesn't normally release details this far in advance. They are good
about maintaining a level of 'buzz' though, and might have released this
teaser email.
The email reportedly from Subaru Canada
reads "There's an old adage in life - if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Thats what we have done for 2012 model year WRX/STI. With record breaking
sales for WRX and STI and numerous awards in 2010, changes have been kept
to a minimum.
Highlights:
New Pioneer Media System with larger touch
screen and full smartphone integration (including Facebook and Twitter
for Apple iPhone users) (STI Sport Tech);
Headlamp bezel changes from black to silver
(regulatory change);
Sedan rear silver garnish is now body-colored;
Spark silver metallic is replaced by Ice
Silver Metallic"
Update 7/25 Colors- rumor-
new Impreza colors reportedly include a new Deep Cherry Pearl, new
Ice Silver Metallic and new 2 tone combinations- Sky Blue with ice silver
and sage green with ice silver.
Dropped from the Impreza line: Spark silver
metallic, Obsidian black pearl, Parika Red Pearl, Marine blue pearl/dark
gray metallic, steel silver met/spark silver met.
Note- though obsidian black is reportedly
discontinued, the 2 tone obsidian black pearl/dark gray continues
In the past 2 tone colors have only been
available on the Outback Sport, perhaps this means there will be a replacement
Outback Sport model
Other colors remain the same.
Update 7/16: 2012s expected to arrive late October-November
No changes have been announced.
It is hoped that any changes will be very
minor since the 11s are such great cars. At this point, 11s continue to
come in sporatically and there is no time frame for 12 deliveries.
Minor changes could involve some feature
changes, perhaps stereo, navigation systems, colors etc.
> Separate model line- Since the
12 WRX and STI will remain the same while the rest of the Impreza line
changes, it will be marketed as a separate model and not as an Impreza
anymore.
> IMPREZA
2012s expected to arrive mid November

Three model lines from
one? Will the XV become a separate model line like the WRX/STI? It
seems Subaru is going to create 3 model lines from the current Impreza.
There will be the Impreza, the WRX/STI, and possibly the XV small SUV...
7/25 Colors-
rumored- new Impreza colors reportedly include a new Deep Cherry

7/16: 2012s expected
to arrive late November-December.
7/12 The Impreza
XV concept crossover SUV will be sold in NZ in 2012.
WRX and STI models
are not getting the same make-over and will be marketed as a separate model.
the big news for 2012.
Initially the all new redesigned 2012 Imprezas rated at 27/36 MPG were
expected in late summer with but that has now been pushed back to
late fall with production to begin in October with delivery in late November/December.
The offical introduction is set for February 2012 though again, the cars
are expected late 2011.
There's very strong interest
and demand and this car can't arrive too soon!
A replacement for the successful
Outback Sport has not been announced but the XV concept car is making
the rounds of international auto shows Subaru is showing it around- its
going to be at the Australian car
show this July 1-10 2011 - and is confirmed for the UK and possibly
Australia. I think it would be popular and a big seller here too.

> XV concept small crossover has not (yet) been announced for the US market. It is expected to be the Outback Sport replacement.
Will the XV become a separate model line? It seems Subaru is going to create 3 model lines from the current Impreza. There will be the Impreza, the WRX/STI, and possibly the XV small SUV...
No word (yet) on which US auto show
will host the XV debut... will it be the LA
Auto Show November 16, 2011, Detroit's N.
American Int. Auto Show January 9, 2012, or the NY
Auto Show April 5, 2012?
"The appearance of Subaru's new XV crossover
in trials on roads in Northland this year is the first stage of an ambitious
plan by parent Fuji Heavy Industries to boost global sales over the next
five years.
The production version of the XV is understood
to be earmarked for road tests here in December, in readiness for its launch
on both sides of the Tasman in March/April next year.
> Subieyota. The Subaru has long
been planned for the Toyko
Auto Show December 3-11. Enjoy lots more all wheel drive vs. rear wheel
drive rumors until then. I would expect the redesigned WRX/STI in 2013
(?) and the Subieyota will share components.
Lets keep talking about Subarus. Comments are welcomed.
