2019s expected later this summer
All 2019s will have standard Eyesight.
The 2019 Premium and Limited will have the new upgraded Starlink emergency connectivity with the Safety Plus program free for 3 years, and the optional Safety Plus and Security Plus will have smartphone activated remote engine start with climate control setting, vehicle locator, remote lock/unlock, boundary alert etc . An additional Concierge package is also available with personal service including vehicle service assistance, booking hotels, events etc.

5/22/17  2017 Outback, Crosstrek and Legacy factory orders end tomorrow 5/23 at 9pm EST.
That's very little advance notice.
If you want a specially equipped 2017 Outback, Crosstrek or Legacy, please order today or tomorrow because after that its too late.
This also means the 2017 model sell-down is right now for best supply and price.
Dealers have a lot of inventory, especially Outbacks and that means they're motivated sellers.
2018 orders will start in late June, with a delivery ETA perhaps of late July but realistically August.
The 2018 Outback, Crosstrek, and Legacy are all getting some excellent upgrades.
The Crosstrek will be all new,  a Crosstrek version of the 17 Impreza, and the Outback and Legacy are getting a new front grill, headlights, interior trim and other minor upgrades but the big news is the improved audio systems with Android Auto and Apple Carplay!
If those features are important, then you'll want to wait for the 18s.
No more 2018 details, prices, or specs have been announced yet but they will be available once the orders start. 
Subaru will offer financing as the 18s arrive but the rates probably won't be as low as what the 17s have, at least at first, and depending on how many 17s are still on lots.

Subaru released some early teaser info on the 18 Crosstrek that will be shown at the NY Auto show on 4/14 and then go on sale later this summer (Sept?).
There will be a lot more information soon but here are some of the details

Its going to be a good upgrade .... more power, better ride and handling due to the all new and much stiffer platform and slightly larger overall size,  Active torque vectoring will improve cornering, Xmode will improve downhill slick road driving, better audio with Android Auto and Carplay, Eyesight gets steering responsive headlights, available Reverse auto brake with back-up beeper (the beeper is the important part), Rear view camera gets visual steering lines to aid backing up, the Tire pressure monitoring will tell you which tire is low, and the Limited finally gets a power driver's seat (but its only 6 way which means no lumbar support).

Not all cars will get all the features but overall it all looks good!
The details will tell the full story but can Subaru keep the price down?

3/7/18 We have to wait until April for details on the US spec 2018 Crosstrek
The European version of the 2018 Crosstrek is called by its original name, the XV, and is at the Geneva Auto Show starting today. There will be some differences between the European and US versions and we'll have to wait for the NY International Auto Show (NAIS) April 14 - Apr 23 for details on our model.
The 18 Crosstrek is a raised up version of the Impreza so there a number of similarities and, like the Impreza, is based on the new global platform.

Bad

> Glitchy 8" audio system, prone to black screen and other failures such volume control failure, screen freeze, map freeze etc. Its not an everyday thing but it does happen. When the screen goes black it might work if you wait 5 or 10 minutes and restart the car. Or disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes. Or it might just start to work.
 Also, there's no volume correction when switching the various audio sources so switching from one source to another might result in sudden shockingly loud volume. Be sure to turn the volume down prior to changing the audio source. When everything works, its fine, but its not a dependable system

No rain sensing front wipers
2.0 base model dropped the fog lights
2.0i and Premium audio systems go budget mode and deleted the CD player, FM HD radio, SiriusXM, and even Starlink cloud apps! How much money can that save Subaru?!?! Comments about this, do you miss the CD player? Please contact Subaru at 800 782-2783 or on Facebook
Limited model finally gets a power drivers seat, but its 6 way doesn't include lumbar support. How much money can that save Subaru !?!? 
The sunvisors are too small for the larger windshield, and there really needs to be 4 sunvisors...  a second sunvisor that flips down when the main is off to the side.
18" wheels are standard on Limiteds. I know that's the style, the 'look', and maybe they handle (slightly) better on the race track, but 18" tires are spendy, the wheels can get curbed, and 18" wheels tend to not be as good on rugged roads or in deep snow as a smaller (17") wheel with a larger (taller) tire.

Break-in period for the first 1000 miles
Don't race the engine, keep RPMs under 4,000 for the most part and vary the speeds with normal city and highway driving.
The first oil change is required at 6000 miles or 6 months. Its recommended to check it every few months

Always....
Always let a cold engine briefly idle as the oil circulates.
Avoid hard acceleration on a cold engine.
Check the oil between changes

EDR, Event Data Recorder information.
In the event of an impact, the EDR will freeze data including how various systems were operating, for example if seatbelts were buckled, if the gas or brake pedals were pressed, and vehicle speed. No personal data is stored. To read data, special equipment is required. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer (Subaru), other parties such as law enforcement that have the equipment can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or EDR.  Existing laws generally provide that information in an EDR is confidential and is the property of the owner of the motor vehicle. Information is accessed through the airbag system using a Subaru service computer.

Its the 3rd generation Eyesight with color cameras (note- 1st gen Eyesight was never offered in the US).

> new for 2018  Lane Keep Assist.  Gently moves the vehicle back into its lane when it unintentionally drifts across a lane marker (stripe). The driver must turn this on for it to work. Lane Keep works at around 37 mph or greater for freeway driving etc, and is only for drifting out of your lane and not for intentionally steering. Its not self driving or for going around curve in the road. Note- it stays on when the car is turned off and restarted so it can be left on
> new for 2018 Reverse Auto Brake (RAB), on Limited with optional Eyesight only. Works at very low speeds, in reverse only. 4 sonar sensors in the rear bumper detect, and beep when an object gets close enough to be detected, at around 2 feet or less. It will beep more rapidly as the car moves closer to the object, and will stop the car from hitting the object as long as its at -very- low speed. The main benefit it the beeping. The auto brake function can be disabled when parking in titgh spaces. Use the control buttons in the lower left of the steering wheel to select and activate or disable various functions as displayed in the center of the gauges.
> new for 2018 High Beam Assist (HBA), on Limited with optional Eyesight only. Mostly for dark or rural, not urban, driving. When the headlights are on the 'Auto' dusk-to-dawn setting and you turn on the high beams, the High Beam Assist controls the high beams, turning them on or off depending on ambient light and on-coming traffic. Uses the eyesight cameras to detect the amount of outside light. There are no driver controllable settings (ie to set the distance at which it detects on-coming lights etc)
> Steering responsive fog lights (new for 2018, on Premium only. Previously on Limiteds as well but the 2018 Limited now has steering responsive headlights)  uses steering wheel position to briefly turn on the left or right fog light to illuminate a corner when the steering wheel is turned. Headlights in 'auto' setting and fog lights off for the system to work.
> Active Cruise Control combines the benefits of cruise control with active monitoring of the road ahead. It will pace with (speed up and slow down) the vehicle ahead at a distance from that car you set. It issues warnings and activates automatic braking when needed. Adaptive Cruise Control can regulate vehicle speed in order to keep a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. It does not replace conventional cruise control, which can still be used when desired.
> Pre-Collision Braking can recognize an impending collision, alert the driver and automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a collision or minimize the impact when a collision is inevitable.
> Pre-Collision Brake Assist-  If Eyesight recognizes an impending collision and the driver is applying the brakes but not with enough force, Pre-Collision Brake Assist automatically applies up to full braking pressure in order to try to shorten braking distances.
> Pre-Collision Throttle Management is designed to help prevent drivers from accelerating into a stopped vehicle or other obstacle in front of them. It warns the driver and reduces engine power until he or she applies the brakes to avoid an impact.
> Lead Vehicle Start Alert is a helpful Eyesight feature that beeps when the car remains stopped with the driver's foot on the brake after a vehicle in front has started to move and gone more than 10 feet
> Lane Departure Warning alerts drivers when they unintentionally move out of their travel lane. It takes no corrective vehicle action other than issuing visual and audible warnings. Works over app 30mph. It doesn't work if the turn signal is used, steering wheel is turned, brake or gas pedal is pressed, all indicating the driver is in control
> Lane Sway Warning acts in a similar way, detecting unusual back and forth vehicle movement within the lane of travel. Lane Sway Warning only operates at speeds over 38 mph.

Eyesight cars have three windshield washer squirters, with the 3rd one attached to the right side wiper arm so it to sprays and cleans in front of the cameras.
The camera’s field of view is about 35 degrees horizontally from the center of the windshield.
The camera’s field of vision extends up to about 260 feet in front of the vehicle, but objects very close to the vehicle may not be detected
EyeSight works to recognize obstacles up to about a 30-mph (or less) speed differential. Essentially, EyeSight needs time to recognize an object or potential obstacle. If the speed difference between the EyeSight vehicle and the object is greater than up to 30 mph, the object will likely not be detected.

Notes
Eyesight uses two forward facing color cameras to see the road ahead, and only works when they can 'see'. Don't block the camera's views, put anything reflective on the dash, hang anything from the rear view mirror, or clean the dash so that it's shiny. Replace the windshield wipers as necessary.
The Eyesight cameras will turn off if the windshield fogs up or if they can't see for any reason.

Do not touch or try to clean the EyeSight camera lenses. It is imperative that extra precaution be used when cleaning the inside of the windshield, because over-spray from cleaners may impair or even damage the cameras’ lenses, which is not a warranty issue.

The Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection (SRVD) system uses two radar units, each mounted underneath the rear bumper skin immediately below the rear taillights and above a typical bumper impact line to help avoid damage in a rear fender bender.

The radar units send out signals to detect vehicles behind and to each side of the Subaru vehicle, especially those vehicles that might not be visible in the rearview mirrors.

Lane Change Assist (LCA) looks for vehicles farther back in an adjacent lane – about 220 feet behind the Subaru vehicle. If the vehicle detected is approaching quickly – at a speed that could bring it alongside the Subaru vehicle within a few seconds – Lane Change Assist will illuminate a warning icon in the exterior mirror on that side. If the driver signals a lane change, the warning icon in the mirror will flash rapidly.

Blind Spot Detection (BSD) is standard on Limiteds, optional on Premiums. It will illuminate a warning icon in the exterior mirror when it detects a vehicle alongside and behind the Subaru vehicle in an area of about 22 feet x 11 feet. If the driver signals a lane change to that side, the warning icon in the mirror will flash.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) uses the same radars and sensors to help detect vehicles that cannot be seen by the driver as they approach from either side. This is especially helpful when reversing from between two larger vehicles. The driver is alerted by a flashing icon in the appropriate exterior mirror as well as an audible beep beep alert

The EPA says a PZEV is clean running gas engine car based on emissions testing for carbon-containing compounds, oxides of nitrogen, particulate matter, and other tailpipe nastiness.
1. A charcoal canister catches unburned gas left in the engine when it's turned off so it doesn't just evaporate. 
2. Fuel injectors that close tighter when they're not in use.

 FM HD radio is free. There's no charge
Its a Digital radio signal with improved clarity and larger selection of stations than standard FM.
The ‘HD’ in ‘HD Radio’ is part of iBiquity Digital’s brand name for its digital AM and FM radio technology.
It does not mean either 'hybrid digital' or 'high definition'.
Again, HD Radio broadcasting is free, there are no fees.
You can get digital AM and FM stations, including HD2 and HD3 multicast channels.
HD is your favorite normal local AM and FM stations broadcasting digitally, producing improved clean sound. 
Radio station subchannels give you more selection.
The service includes iTunes Tagging. iTunes Tagging lets you capture information about a song on the radio and store it on your iPod by pushing the "Tag" button on the HD Radio receiver. When your iPod is connected to iTunes, a list of tagged songs will appear which can be purchased.

Ordering a car.
What if the dealer doesn't have what I want?
Dealers get a limited number of cars each month.
They have an Incoming report and you can reserve (put your name on) one of the incoming cars.
As a result, many incoming cars will be sold before they arrive.
That means a factory special order might be the way to get the exact car and features you want.
Factory orders will be filled from your dealer's normal allocation of Crosstreks.
Subaru doesn't like cancelled special orders, so please be sure you want and will be able to complete the transaction
When first ordered, the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) will probably be a general 'month of...' date that is around 2 months out from the order date.
The order will then be filled as available but it will probably be in the 1 1/5-2 month window.
Your dealer can also try to locate or find a suitable car for you at another dealer who is willing to swap Crosstreks.
Be patient, the dealer will want you get your car as quickly as possible.
