The 2019 Premium and Limited will have the new upgraded Starlink emergency connectivity with the Safety Plus program free for 3 years, and the optional Safety Plus and Security Plus will have smartphone activated remote engine start with climate control setting, vehicle locator, remote lock/unlock, boundary alert etc . An additional Concierge package is also available with personal service including vehicle service assistance, booking hotels, events etc.

Excellent Limited upgrades... power drivers seat (but without lumbar support!), LED and Steering Responsive headlights, and TPMS individual wheel tire pressure display. It also gets 18" wheels (not good).

Bad
Glitchy 8" audio system, prone to black screen and other failures such volume control failure, screen freeze, map freeze etc. Its not an everyday thing but it does happen. When the screen goes black it might work if you wait 5 or 10 minutes and restart the car. Or disconnect the battery and wait a few minutes.
 Also, there's no volume correction when switching the various audio sources so switching from one source to another might result in sudden shockingly loud volume. Be sure to turn the volume down prior to changing the audio source. When everything works, its fine, but its not a dependable system

No rain sensing front wipers
2.0 base model dropped the fog lights
2.0i and Premium audio systems go budget mode and deleted the CD player, FM HD radio, SiriusXM, and even Starlink cloud apps! How much money can that save Subaru?!?! Comments about this, do you miss the CD player? Please contact Subaru at 800 782-2783 or on Facebook
Limited model finally gets a power drivers seat, but its 6 way doesn't include lumbar support. How much money can that save Subaru !?!? 
The sunvisors are too small for the larger windshield, and there really needs to be 4 sunvisors...  a second sunvisor that flips down when the main is off to the side.
18" wheels are standard on Limiteds. I know that's the style, the 'look', and maybe they handle (slightly) better on the race track, but 18" tires are spendy, the wheels can get curbed, and 18" wheels tend to not be as good on rugged roads or in deep snow as a smaller (17") wheel with a larger (taller) tire.

Break-in period for the first 1000 miles
Don't race the engine, keep RPMs under 4,000 for the most part and vary the speeds with normal city and highway driving.
The first oil change is required at 6000 miles or 6 months. Its recommended to check it every few months

Always....
Always let a cold engine briefly idle as the oil circulates.
Avoid hard acceleration on a cold engine.
Check the oil between changes

Oil- 0w-20 synthetic oil is required (5.3 qts)

EDR, Event Data Recorder information.
In the event of an impact, the EDR will freeze data including how various systems were operating, for example if seatbelts were buckled, if the gas or brake pedals were pressed, and vehicle speed. No personal data is stored. To read data, special equipment is required. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer (Subaru), other parties such as law enforcement that have the equipment can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or EDR.  Existing laws generally provide that information in an EDR is confidential and is the property of the owner of the motor vehicle. Information is accessed through the airbag system using a Subaru service computer.

This is the 5th year for Eyesight on the Crosstrek.
It was new on the 2015 Crosstrek

Its the 3rd generation Eyesight with color cameras (note- 1st gen Eyesight was never offered in the US).\

> Blind Spot Detection and Rear cross Traffic Alert (scroll down)
 > Lane Keep Assist.  (all models) Gently moves the vehicle back into its lane when it unintentionally drifts across a lane marker (stripe). The driver can deactivate this function. Lane Keep works at around 37 mph or greater for freeway driving etc, and is only for drifting out of your lane and not for intentionally steering. Its not self driving or for going around curve in the road. Note- it stays on when the car is turned off and restarted so it can be left on.
> Reverse Auto Brake (RAB). (Limited only) Works at very low speeds, in reverse only. 4 sonar sensors in the rear bumper detect and beep when an object gets close, around 24" less. It will beep more rapidly as the car moves closer to the object, and will stop the car from hitting the object as long as its at -very, very- low speed. The main benefit is the beeping. The auto brake function can be disabled when parking in tight spaces. Use the control buttons in the lower left of the steering wheel to select and activate or disable various functions as displayed in the center of the gauges.
 > High Beam Assist (HBA). (Limited only) Mostly for dark or rural, not urban, driving. When the headlights are on the 'Auto' dusk-to-dawn setting and you turn on the high beams, the High Beam Assist controls the high beams, turning them on or off depending on ambient light and on-coming traffic. Uses the eyesight cameras to detect the amount of outside light. There are no driver controllable settings ie to set the distance at which it detects on-coming lights etc.
> Steering responsive fog lights (Premium only) use steering wheel position to briefly turn on the left or right fog light to illuminate a corner when the steering wheel is turned. Headlights in 'auto' setting and fog lights off for the system to work.
> Steering responsive head lights(Limited only)  use the steering wheel position to briefly point the LED headlights to the left or right fog light to illuminate the side of the road when the steering wheel is turned.
> Active Cruise Control (all models) combines the benefits of cruise control with active monitoring of the road ahead. It will pace with (speed up and slow down) the vehicle ahead at a distance from that car you set. It issues warnings and activates automatic braking when needed. Adaptive Cruise Control can regulate vehicle speed in order to keep a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. It does not replace conventional cruise control, which can still be used when desired.
> Pre-Collision Braking (all models) can recognize an impending collision, alert the driver and automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a collision or minimize the impact when a collision is inevitable.
> Pre-Collision Brake Assist (all models)  If Eyesight recognizes an impending collision and the driver is applying the brakes but not with enough force, Pre-Collision Brake Assist automatically applies up to full braking pressure in order to try to shorten braking distances.
> Pre-Collision Throttle Management (all models) is designed to help prevent drivers from accelerating into a stopped vehicle or other obstacle in front of them. It warns the driver and reduces engine power until he or she applies the brakes to avoid an impact.
> Lead Vehicle Start Alert (all models) is a helpful Eyesight feature that beeps when the car remains stopped with the driver's foot on the brake after a vehicle in front has started to move and gone more than 10 feet
> Lane Departure Warning (all models) alerts drivers when they unintentionally move out of their travel lane. It takes no corrective vehicle action other than issuing visual and audible warnings. Works over app 30mph. It doesn't work if the turn signal is used, steering wheel is turned, brake or gas pedal is pressed, all indicating the driver is in control
> Lane Sway Warning (all models) acts in a similar way, detecting unusual back and forth vehicle movement within the lane of travel. Lane Sway Warning only operates at speeds over 38 mph.

Eyesight cars have three windshield washer squirters, with the 3rd one attached to the right side wiper arm so it to sprays and cleans in front of the cameras.
The camera’s field of view is about 35 degrees horizontally from the center of the windshield.
The camera’s field of vision extends up to about 260 feet in front of the vehicle, but objects very close to the vehicle may not be detected
EyeSight works to recognize obstacles up to about a 30-mph (or less) speed differential. Essentially, EyeSight needs time to recognize an object or potential obstacle. If the speed difference between the EyeSight vehicle and the object is greater than up to 30 mph, the object will likely not be detected.

Notes
Eyesight uses two forward facing color cameras to see the road ahead, and only works when they can 'see'. Don't block the camera's views, put anything reflective on the dash, hang anything from the rear view mirror, or clean the dash so that it's shiny. Replace the windshield wipers as necessary.
The Eyesight cameras will turn off if the windshield fogs up or if they can't see for any reason.

Do not touch or try to clean the Eyesight camera lenses. It is imperative that extra precaution be used when cleaning the inside of the windshield because over spray from cleaners may impair or even damage the cameras’ lenses, which is not a warranty repair.

 The warning symbol is in the outside mirror housing, right next to the window and is bright and easy to see
 
> Rear Cross Traffic Alert (warns of vehicles approaching when you're backing out of a parking spot).

The Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection (SRVD) system uses two radar units, each mounted underneath the rear bumper skin immediately below the rear taillights and above a typical bumper impact line to help avoid damage in a rear fender bender.

The radar units send out signals to detect vehicles behind and to each side of the Subaru vehicle, especially those vehicles that might not be visible in the rearview mirrors.

Lane Change Assist (LCA) looks for vehicles farther back in an adjacent lane – about 220 feet behind the Subaru vehicle. If the vehicle detected is approaching quickly – at a speed that could bring it alongside the Subaru vehicle within a few seconds – Lane Change Assist will illuminate a warning icon in the exterior mirror on that side. If the driver signals a lane change, the warning icon in the mirror will flash rapidly.

Blind Spot Detection (BSD) is standard on Limiteds, optional on Premiums. It will illuminate a warning icon in the exterior mirror when it detects a vehicle alongside and behind the Subaru vehicle in an area of about 22 feet x 11 feet. If the driver signals a lane change to that side, the warning icon in the mirror will flash.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) uses the same radars and sensors to help detect vehicles that cannot be seen by the driver as they approach from either side. This is especially helpful when reversing from between two larger vehicles. The driver is alerted by a flashing icon in the appropriate exterior mirror as well as an audible beep beep alert

 helps in an accident, lost, car is stolen, broken down, or with emergency services and mechanical issues and notification.
In an emergency, you don't have to fumble looking for a phone, dialing a number, or even know where you are.
Just reach up and tap the button as long as the engine is running or the battery power for the accessories is turned on

Note- this system does NOT work if the car's battery is dead, there's no backup battery for it so in the event of a dead battery or an accident where the battery is dislodged, have your cellphone handy because the Starlink won't work.
There is a backup emergency battery for sending an emergency signal after an accident or airbag deployment
 
AT&T provides the connection, Sirius/XM provides the telematics

All Wheel Drive
 all models have full time, all wheel, all speed, All Wheel Drive with VDC (vehicle dynamics control) electronic stability control with TCS (traction control system).
 
Manual transmission models have "Continuous" all wheel drive with 50/50 front/back power split, mechanically controlled. 
CVT transmission models use "Active" all wheel drive, electronically controlled front/back power split. Mostly front wheel drive under normal driving conditions.
Active Torque Vectoring
all models
 Active torque vectoring uses the brake and engine power to help control handling when cornering.
It monitors steering angle, accelerator pedal, lateral g-force and yaw.
It's designed to detect understeer and apply brake pressure to the inside cornering front wheel, helping keep the vehicle on the driver's intended cornering path.
(was new starting on 2018 models)
X-mode with hill descent control
on CVT only		 CVT models only
Low speed only
Driver must turn it on when approaching or going down a hill, at very low speed.

X-mode with hill descent control works on slippery surfaces
Hill descent control uses all functions to sense and then control wheel spin and vehicle speed when going down a steep hill.
It controls engine power, transmission ratio ('gear'), sensitivity of the VDC (vehicle dynamics control and traction control) to help reduce wheel spin and keep the car from going faster and faster, thus allowing the driver to maintain control

Note: if the driver is pressing the gas pedal, it will override X-mode and the car will accelerate, and X-mode will turn off at app 26mph

 What is PZEV, a brief summary  Partial Zero Emission Vehicle
The EPA says a PZEV is clean running gas engine car based on emissions testing for carbon-containing compounds, oxides of nitrogen, particulate matter, and other tailpipe nastiness.
1. A charcoal canister catches unburned gas left in the engine when it's turned off so it doesn't just evaporate. 
2. Fuel injectors that close tighter when they're not in use.
3. A finer mesh in the catalytic converter, as well as optimized placement of its precious metal.
4.  The engine's electronic brain is tuned to run the hot at start up to help the catalytic converter heat up so it can start doing its job faster.

new for 2019 FM HD is now on the Premium as well as Limited models

 FM HD radio is free. There's no charge.
Its a Digital radio signal with improved clarity and larger selection of stations than standard FM.
The ‘HD’ in ‘HD Radio’ is part of iBiquity Digital’s brand name for its digital AM and FM radio technology.
It does not mean either 'hybrid digital' or 'high definition'.
Again, HD Radio broadcasting is free, there are no fees.
You can get digital AM and FM stations, including HD2 and HD3 multicast channels.
HD is your favorite normal local AM and FM stations broadcasting digitally, producing improved clean sound. 
Radio station subchannels give you more selection.
The service includes iTunes Tagging. iTunes Tagging lets you capture information about a song on the radio and store it on your iPod by pushing the "Tag" button on the HD Radio receiver. When your iPod is connected to iTunes, a list of tagged songs will appear which can be purchased.

Ordering a car.
What if the dealer doesn't have what I want?
Dealers get a limited number of cars each month.
They have an Incoming report and you can reserve (put your name on) one of the incoming cars.
As a result, many incoming cars will be sold before they arrive.
That means a factory special order might be the way to get the exact car and features you want.
Factory orders will be filled from your dealer's normal allocation of Crosstreks.
Subaru doesn't like cancelled special orders, so please be sure you want and will be able to complete the transaction
When first ordered, the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) will probably be a general 'month of...' date that is around 2 months out from the order date.
The order will then be filled as available but it will probably be in the 1 1/5-2 month window.
Your dealer can also try to locate or find a suitable car for you at another dealer who is willing to swap Crosstreks.
Be patient, the dealer will want you get your car as quickly as possible.
