Impreza information page
6/30- earthquake related
inventory shortages continue
While the earthquake was
mid-March, the effect of the factory closures and part shortages is only
now fully impacting dealer inventory. For the past few months, cars already
in the system and/or enroute before the earthquake have continued to arrive.
Now that those cars have already arrived, dealers are expecting far fewer
cars than they need. Supply varies by car line, but overall the selection
available will be less, and especially so of more popular models, packages
or colors that sell quickly anyway.
When dealers don't have
as many new cars to sell, they don't get as many trade-ins. When there
aren't as many trade-ins, auction cars tend to sell at higher prices, so
this temporary shortage has a ripple effect..
5/27/11-
Subaru
has conflicting statements about Recommending vs Requiring synthetic or
regular oil.
>
Synthetic is required on all 2011 turbo and 2.5L Foresters
> Outback, Legacy, Tribeca,
Impreza, (exc turbos)- Some owners manuals will
recommend using
synthetic but not require it. Owners manuals printed around March 2011
presumably indicate all Subarus require synthetic oil.
2011
maintenance schedule
4/11/11 Factory orders
end for 2011s-
Factory orders are no longer
accepted for any 2011 vehicle. This is normal as 2011 model production
winds down and starts the shift to 2012, and also to better manage
limited parts and resources after the March 11 earthquake. In late March,
some lower volume Outback and Legacy models had been already removed from
the order list- manual transmissions, 3.6Rs, uncommon Option Packages.
3/28/2011 The new optional 10" powered Subwoofer by Kicker is now showing up on cars. It definitely puts out some sound! See photos above. Not available with cargo nets and cargo trays (or snip the tray to fit), or the underseat subwoofer. Removes easily to access the spare tire
1/28/2011 new accessories..
Impreza- gets a new
10", powered, 100w stereo subwoofer, available on all models. Fits cargo
area (5 door) or trunk (4 door). Made by Kicker. List price installed $543.
Also available from your parts dept. Not available with cargo tray or seatback
cargo net, or the subwoofer that fits under the driver seat.
Impreza and Legacy sedan-
new rear bumper protector, available on all Legacy and Impreza sedans (though
it could work on any model). Sits folded up on the trunk floor, and then
you unfold and pull it over the rear bumper to protect the bumper when
you might briefly rest something on it while loading cargo etc.
12/6/10- Power Outlet. 110v, 100w 2 prong power outlet now available on Impreza and Forester, previously on Outbank and Legacy only. 2 pront outlet like at home. No more car chargers for cell phones, laptops etc. In back of center console. See photos above.
11/27/10 Spark plug replacement interval on all 2011 Outback, Legacy, Forester, Impreza 4 cylinder non-turbo, turbo, and 6cylinder, the spark plug replacement interval is now 52,500 miles, 52.5 months, or 84000km. This replaces the 60,000 mile, 5 year interval. No mention of Tribeca. This is new, and in maintenance books printed Sept, 2010

various types listed above
VDC (vehicle dyanmics control) is Subaru's electronic stability control system that monitors wheel spin, brakes, steering angle, and yaw. If the vehicle's intended path is not where the vehicle is going, VDC applies brakes and/or reduces engine power to help control vehicle. With off switch. TCS (traction control system) is Subaru's all speed, all wheel traction control system senses wheel spin and applies brakes. |

Towing | Towing a
trailer- is not recommmended with an Impreza and no factory trailer
is available. Unofficially, if you are going to tow with an Impreza anyway,
check and maintain all fluids and tune-up specs, and keep weight and speeds
down, and of course have a reputable hitch installer install it on your
car. Warranties might be affected by towing.
Towing the car - a
flatbed is always recommended when towing your Subaru. A manual transmission
can be towed with all wheels on the ground behind a tow truck or motorhome
for example, but never with just 2 wheels on the ground.

How to get a car
inventory, dealer trade, ordering
Inventory - Dealers are offered cars for inventory a month or so in advance. The quantity can vary from month to month. Most cars will have a extra options or upgrades and usually these are features that are popular in the area. Some, but only a few, will not have any extras at all. Cars in stock are available for immediate purchase and dealers might be more motivated to move them.
"Dealer trade" or "locate".
This is when a dealer looks for a vehicle in another dealer's inventory
and then trades cars, ie swaps cars, with that dealer.
This means the requesting dealer has to
have a car the other dealer will accept back in trade.
There are many people at the dealerships
and at Subaru involved in the process.
The vehicle is usually driven from the
other location. This can take place within days if a vehicle is already
in stock someplace.
Pre-sell, incoming: You wait for a vehicle the dealer already has incoming in their system.
Order:
If you really want a specific vehicle,
you can order it. Subaru requires customer information and a deposit.
Once ordered Subaru will give an expected
delivery
Month.
Within 2-5 weeks, there will be date,
an ETA, an estimated time of arrival. This is not a promise the car
will there on a specific day or week and the frequently changes. Your dealer
can watch for updates.
Orders are filled as the right model, tranmission,
and color is available, on a first order in, first filled basis.
Usually a vehicle arrives at a dealer
within 5-10 weeks (typically 7-8), but delays can happen at any point along
the assembly and shipping process, so be patient.
If you are requesting a popular car with
a waiting list, or an uncommon car, it can take longer.
If a certain individual option or accessory
is not available for installation, the car will still be sent to the dealer.
The accessory can then be added by the dealer but the cost might change.
The dealer wants you to get your car as
quickly as you want to get it!
THE END.
