optional wrx and sti stereo subwoofer goes under the driver seat. There is also a new optional 10" powered subwoofer that fits the cargo area. 7/30 Canadian WRX/STI model email. There's an email teaser online about 2012 Canadian model WRX and STI.
The email would seem to be real though it might not be correct for US models.
It would seem to confirm there are very few changes for the 12s- and none are needed since they are great cars! A new Navigation system is offered and that would be good.
On colors, the new ice silver metallic replaces spark silver metallic.Obsidian black has possibly been dropped and replaced by new Deep Cherry Pearl? Other colors remain the same.
Since the 12s are expected in late October,  Subaru doesn't normally release details this far in advance. They are good about maintaining a level of 'buzz' though and might have released this teaser email.

6/30- earthquake related inventory shortages continue
While the earthquake was mid-March, the effect of the factory closures and part shortages is only now fully impacting dealer inventory. For the past few months, cars already in the system and/or enroute before the earthquake have continued to arrive. Now that those cars have already arrived, dealers are expecting far fewer cars than they need. Supply varies by car line, but overall the selection available will be less, and especially so of more popular models, packages or colors that sell quickly anyway.
When dealers don't have as many new cars to sell, they don't get as many trade-ins. When there aren't as many trade-ins, auction cars tend to sell at higher prices, so this temporary shortage has a ripple effect..

6/9/2011 turbo boost gauge is now available for WRX, STI 2008-2011. Red lit. Factory installed MSRP on a new car $335. Part price $230. Part #H501SFG500

4/11/2011 Factory orders end for 2011s-
Factory orders are no longer accepted for any 2011 vehicle. This is normal as 2011 model production winds down and starts the shift to 2012,  and also to better manage limited parts and resources after the March 11 earthquake. In late March, some lower volume Outback and Legacy models had been already removed from the order list- manual transmissions, 3.6Rs, uncommon Option Packages.

3/28/2011 The new optional 10" powered Subwoofer by Kicker is now showing up on cars. It definitely puts out some sound! See photos above. Not available with cargo nets. Not available from the factory with cargo trays (or snip the tray to fit) or the underseat subwoofer but they can be added afterwards.  Removes easily to access the spare tire

1/28/2011 new accessories..
Impreza- gets a new 10", powered, 100w stereo subwoofer, available on all models. Fits cargo area (5 door) or trunk (4 door). Made by Kicker. List price installed $543. Also available from your local dealer parts dept. Not available with seatback cargo net or the subwoofer that fits under the driver seat
Impreza and Legacy sedan- new rear bumper protector, available on all Legacy and Impreza sedans (though it could work on any model). Sits folded up on the trunk floor, and then you unfold and pull it over the rear bumper to protect the bumper when you might briefly rest something on it while loading cargo etc. Available from your local dealer parts dept.

1/26/2011 STI, WRX, turbo and other Subaru model upgrades are available from Cosworth in Torrance, California

12/6/2010 New options Catback 2.5" exhaust now available for the 4 door WRXs - previously only available on 5 door models. New Fog Lights now available on base WRX, STI. body colored surround, $387. 110v100w 2 prong Power Outlet now available on Impreza, all models.

11/27/10 Spark plug replacement interval   on all 2011 Outback, Legacy, Forester, Impreza 4 cylinder non-turbo, turbo, and 6cylinder, the spark plug replacement interval is now 52,500 miles, 52.5 months, or 84000km. This replaces the 60,000 mile, 5 year interval  This is new, and in maintenance books printed Sept, 2010

11/20/10 Share the Love v. 3.  Buy a Subaru, choose a charity, and Subaru donates $250. Its the 3rd Share the Love Event, and it runs 11/2010 - 1/3/11 . 2010 charities Ocean Conservancy, Big Brothers Big Sisters, ASPCA, Habitat for Humanity, Meals On Wheels. 8/10/10 SPT Catback Exhaust now available on the 5 door WRX in addition to the 5 door STI. This is a very good upgrade. Low restriction, deeper but not loud sounding. Available factory installed as a package with exhaust finishers and 'tuned by STP' decal for MSRP $1327, or alone for MSRP $1067

7/29/10 NEW Subaru Synthetic 5w-30 Oil is new and required on 2011 turbos, and recommended for 2010 and prior turbos. click for full 2011 maintenance schedule

6/21 2011 WRX and STI orders available. No prices annnounced.

WRX- a few upgrades announced.  A more aggressive look, wider track, and upgraded suspension.
Wider fenders, new headlights, new front grill, new fog lights surrounds, front lip spoiler, wider wheels/ tires. The track is app 1.5" wider front and rear, firmer rear subframe bushings. The 2011 wheels will be 17x 8-in. (replaces 17 x 7) and tires 235/45R17.

new  to enhance the experience and welcome new owners, Subaru will send a welcome packet with a guide to owner benefits booklet with company contact info, various websites etc.  They're not including contact info for your dealer which should be the first place to go for specific questions about operating the new car, or for service, comments, help, advice etc.

3/27-  going fast  Aspen White STI SE - app only 11 of the 125 Aspen White STI SEs are still available nationally. Reportedly only 500 SEs will be made
3/23/10 2011 WRX- a few upgrades announced.  A more aggressive look and upgraded suspension. 2/7/2010 hands free cell phone bluetooth 'BlueConnect' now available. Installs under the heater controls. Not available with Navigation.

1/12/10  STI SE and WRX Limited expected starting March 2010
12/2/09 STI SE price The handling and suspension package STI SE model available in early Spring 2010 will have a MSRP of $33,690 ($32995 +695 destination) which is $2000 less than the current base STI MSRP of  $35,690. This is a bargain for upgraded handling and suspension if you're ok with halogen low beams, a 4 speaker single disc CD player, and manual air conditioning. Quantity will be 'limited' and it will be available initially with 125 Aspen White ones. Other colors available are WR Blue, Dark Gray and Obsidian Black.
11/24/09  New WRX, STI models -  Subaru will introduce a new 2010 Impreza WRX STI Special Edition (model code ALU) handling/suspension package, and WRX Limited (model code AJP, ALP) at the LA Auto Show,  December 4-13.
The STI Special Edition will be available in an initial limited run of 125 units. It will be a slightly decontented model with upgraded performance suspension (derived from the Japanese spec C), unique Aspen White paint and gray spec C wheels. It will have halogen headlights instead of HID, no power headlight aiming, a single-disc CD player with  4speakers instead of the 6 CD changer with 10 speakers, manual air conditioning instead climate control, and body color side mirrors without built-in turn signals.
The 2010 Impreza WRX Limited adds leather interior, HID headlights with power aiming like the STI, and Sirius satellite radio to the WRX Premium model. Prices to be announced....

- RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE - . click for full page 2011 maintenance schedule and service intervals NEW 7/29/10 Subaru Synthetic 5w-30 Oil required for all 2011 turbo engines.  recommended for 2010 and prior turbo engines.  Note: the warranty maintenance owner's booklet may have incorrectly omitted the recommended 105,000 mile 2.5L timing belt replacement. New Car 1000 mile break-in period keep RPMs under 4000, vary speeds, avoid hard starts/stops Oil Change new for 2011 requires Synthetic 5w-30.  With ever changing technology and new government rules for cleaner burning engines and increased fuel economy, old fashioned, conventional oil doesn't provide the lubrication and protection needed. Car companies are looking at all ways to meet these new standards and synthetic oil is one way. Turbo maintenance> > Early warranty books: the Subaru maintenance schedule note #1  reads "When the vehicle is used under severe driving conditions, the engine oil and filter should be changed every 3,750 miles or 3 3/4 months. All turbo-charges vehicles are considered to be operated under severe driving conditions" > Later warranty books: the statement no longer includes  All turbo-charges vehicles are considered to be operated under severe driving conditions. Suggested: do the first oil change by 3mos or 3000 miles and then at least a minimum of every 7500 miles or 7.5 months afterwards. That is as long as you should go and it is strongly recommended to replace it much more frequently. 1st oil change required at 5500 miles or 3.76 on all 2011 turbos per statement above Subsequent oil change: required every 3,750 or 3.75 months. Tire rotation 7,500 miles 15,000 miles - minor service, inspection, air and other filter changes as necessary. 30,000 mile service with major fluids, inspect timing belt, and filters change Spark plug replacement interval   on all 2011 Outback, Legacy, Forester,  WRX STI, the spark plug replacement interval is 60,000 miles.  Note- early maintenance books printed Sept, 2010 incorrectly have 52,500 miles, 52.5 months, or 84000k have for the spark plug change but its really 60mo/60,000 miles.. 60,000 miles: repeat 30,000 service Timing belt- replace at 105,000 miles. The warranty maintenance owner's booklet may have incorrectly omitted this. Coolant- Subaru Super Coolant. Blue color. The first replacement is 11 years.

The rubber compound does not maintain elasticity in cold weather. This means the grip level of the tire is less in cold temperatures even on dry pavement. In the cold a summer tire becomes unpredictable and feels slippery when cornering no matter what the weather. This problem is compounded in wet or snowy conditions.
