new for 2013- the Legacy Limited has new rear seat AC vents in the center rear console. Gray interior with off-black leather shown. The vents only blow cold or cool air.	new for 2013 Eyesight driver assistance and active cruise control system, it's optional on Limited models only. Eyesight cars have three windshield washer squirters, with the middle one to clean in front of the cameras.

6/17 XM satellite radio upgrade on 2013 and 2014 models purchased on or after June 17th purchases
Any 2013 or 2014 model year cars with factory installed satellite radio purchased on or after 6/17/13 will get XM All Access free for 4 months (dealer installed satellite is free for 3 months). This is an upgrade over the XM Select package previously included for 4 months, and includes all the premium channels including NFL and Nascar radio, Howard Stern, and XM internet radio for home computers, tablets, and smartphones. Satellite radio is included with all 2013 AND 2014 Navigation systems, all Outback and Legacy Limiteds, Forester Tourings, and all Tribecas. 5/14/13 recall- 5,379 2013 Outbacks and Legacys might have a steering column shaft that was not correctly assembled that could possibly lead to a steering failure.
Not all vehicles in the VIN range will be affected. The VIN range for Legacy is D*002001-003605, the the Outback is D*200001-204233.
Owners will be notified 5/14/13 by mail and email which is why its important to make sure Subaru always has your current contact information. This is steering column recall #WQI-45

3/23 Navigation Aha upgrade available April-December 2013 on 2013 Outback and Legacy with navigation built prior to 1/18/13
Upgrade program to run April-December 2013. Aha is by Harman Kardon. You put the Aha app on your Android or iPhone phone (not Blackberry or Windows, though that can change) and it channels content to your navigation. Starlink/Aha is now standard on 2013 Outback and Legacy with navigation starting with January 18, 2013 production but it can now be added to 2013 Outback and Legacy with navigation built prior to that date. Download Aha, its free, from either iTunes or Google Play. Your Subaru dealer will do the upgrade of the navigation unit. The Aha upgrade program runs April-December 2013. The cost to upgrade your navigation is $100. Subaru will contact owners.

3/2 Outback and Legacy orders end Monday March 4th. If you intend to special order a 2103 Legacy or Outback, you have until close of business on the 4th. Typically new models arrive in July (maybe late June). No word on any changes.

1/10/13 Prices updated with new Aha audio integration system. It uses your phone to funnel content to the car. Standard on, and available only on, navigation models, the price increase is $100 MSRP. Available for ordering now, with delivery starting February. Option Packages #08, #20, have been replaced by packages #18, #28

12/22 IIHS crash test give the new Top Safety Pick+ rating to the 2013 Legacy and Outback built after August 2012, and 11 other cars.
"IIHS rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal, or poor based on performance in a moderate overlap frontal crash, small overlap frontal crash, side impact and rollover, plus evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts.
To qualify for the 2013 Top Safety Pick+ award, vehicles must earn good ratings for occupant protection in at least 4 of 5 evaluations and no less than acceptable in the fifth test. To qualify for the 2013 Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must earn good ratings in the moderate overlap frontal test, side impact, rollover and rear tests, regardless of their rating in the small overlap frontal test.

12/6/12 Aha radio- Aha is by Harman/Kardon and funnels music, radio stations, even audio books through your phone to the car's Navigation system. It will be on the 2014 Forester, and 2013 Legacy and Outback in early 2013. Navigation is required.
11/8/12 new Legacy model and packages updated to include the new 2.5L Sport model available late 2012, and 2 new Navigation packages that include Aha radio/internet integration system available early 2013.
The new 2.5i Sport CVT model fits between the Premium CVT and Limited CVT. No manual is available. Includes power moonroof, All Weather Package, Fog lights with chrome trim, Alloy pedal covers, 18" high luster silver alloys and carbon fiber design dash trim (from the discontinued 2012 Legacy GT) and striated black cloth with silver stitching.

> new the Hill Holder function is now turned on when you restart the car if it was left on when the car was last turned off.
> new 2.5L engine: improved economy +1mpg, and slightly more power. The new 2.5L engine was first used in the 2011 Forester.
It's a DOHC (double overhead cam) with a little more power- 173hp vs170hp and 174lb-ft of torque vs 170lb-ft at 4100rpm, and a timing chain with no scheduled replacement instead of a timing belt with a 105,000 mile replacement. Fuel economy with the 2.5L and CVT is up 1 MPG to 24/32/27 city/highway/combined.
The 3.6L engine remains the same with no changes.
> new CVT- 2nd generation CVT is lighter, quieter, more responsive than the 1st version used from 2010-2012. The 3.6L 5 speed automatic remains the same
> new upgraded chassis and suspension. All models get improved ride, handling and steering due to upgraded body structure with stiffer front strut mounting points and rear frame rails, upgraded suspension that includes a larger rear sway bar, slightly stiffer rear springs and bushings, and upgraded steering. The result is a more responsive car with improved handling and steering and less body sway.
> new fuel cutoff system that detects an airbag deployment and cuts off the fuel pump to minimize fire danger after an accident
> new BOS brake override system- when gas and brake pedals are both pressed, the brake overrides and stops the car. To prevent operator error unintended acceleration

Break-in period for the first 1000 miles
Don't race the engine, keep RPMs under 4,000 for the most part and vary the speeds with normal city/highway driving.
2.5L models- the first oil change is required by 7500 miles or 7.5 months. Its recommended to do it around 3months/3,000 miles.
3.6R models- the first oil change is required by 3months/3,000 miles.

Oil
new for 2013 2.5L engine: 0w-20 synthetic oil is required
3.6L engine- 5w-30 oil. Synthetic oil is recommended but not required
Its required to replace the oil and filter at least every 7,500 miles or 7.5 months.
With heavy stop and go, hard driving, or towing etc its recommended to replace every 3750 miles or 3.75 months

Service schedule

First oil/filter service- 2.5L models- the first oil change is required by 7500 miles or 7.5 months. Its recommended to do it around 3months/3,000 miles.
First oil/filter service- 3.6L models- the first oil change is required by 3months/3,000 miles.
Tire Rotations- tires should be rotated every 7500 or 7.5 months or so. Equal tread is required on all 4 tires.

7,500 miles/7.5 months- oil/filter service, rotate tires. equal tread is required on all tires.
15,000 miles/yearly- repeat 7500 mile service, replace cabin air filter, check hoses, belts, brakes etc
30,000 miles/30 months- repeat 15k service plus replace engine air filter and brake fluid. inspect other all fluids and filters,
60,000 miles/60 months (5 years)- repeat 30k service plus replace spark plugs and wires. 3.6L models use transmission fluid. 2.5L CVT does not.
90,000 miles/90 months- repeat 30k service plus replace all fluids, filters

Radiator fluid is Super Coolant long life. The first replacement is 11 years.
2.5L CVT Transmission: Life Time oil and should not need to be replaced unless driven under hard conditions, towing etc-change every 24,855 miles. Note- there is no CVT oil dipstick.

Event Data Recorder (EDR)	EDR, Event Data Recorder information. In the event of an impact, the EDR will freeze data including how various systems were operating, for example if seatbelts were buckled, if the gas or brake pedals were pressed, and vehicle speed. No personal data is stored. To read data, special equipment is required. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer (Subaru), other parties such as law enforcement that have the equipment can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or EDR. Existing laws generally provide that information in an EDR is confidential and is the property of the owner of the motor vehicle. Information is accessed through the airbag system using a Subaru service computer.

emissions	PZEV is Partial Zero Emission Vehicle. The EPA says PZEV is the cleanest running gas car on today's market based on emissions testing for carbon-containing compounds, oxides of nitrogen, particulate matter, and other tailpipe nastiness. What it does 1. A charcoal canister catches unburned gas left in the engine when it's turned off so it doesn't evaporate. 2. Fuel injectors close tighter when they're not in use. 3. It has a finer mesh in the catalytic converter, as well as optimized placement of precious metal. 4. The engine's electronic brain is set to run hotter at start up so the catalytic converter heats up faster.			PZEV is not available or required on the 3.6L

Parking brake	all models use an Electric Parking Brake with Auto Release and Hill Holder. Auto release function- wear seatbelt, step on brake pedal, put car in gear, lightly press gas pedal. The system makes a mild sound as it activates or releases the brake so you know its working. To use in as emergency brake tap or hold the brake button down but only in an serious emergency when you cannot normally brake! This will cause your rear wheels to lock so be very careful. The mechanical release for the electric brake if the battery is dead is under the car in front of the right rear wheel and it's an awkward process, so keep the battery charged. Hill Holder Brake system automatically activates the electric parking brake when stopped on a steep hill	> new the Hill Holder function is now turned on when you restart the car if it was left on when the car was last turned off. Standard on all models. Especially useful with the manual transmission. Uses the electric parking brake. After the car is started, the system can be turned on by pressing the Hill Holder button by the driver's left knee (left of the parking brake button). A green light in the upper right dash comes on. When stopping on a hill 5% or steeper, either going forward up or backwards down a hill, the Hill Holder activates the electric parking brake and will briefly hold the car from rolling while the driver steps on the gas. Towing-	Towing with the Legacy is not recommended and no trailer hitch is available from Subaru for the Legacy Emergency Towing: a flatbed is always preferred. Never tow with on 2 wheels on the ground. Towing the car- a flatbed is always recommended when towing your Outback. A manual transmission can be towed with all wheels on the ground behind a tow truck or motorhome for example, but never with just 2 wheels on the ground. HD Radio
Digital radio broadcast signal for improved clarity

HD radio was first offered in the 2011 Forester Limited and Touring models.
The ‘HD’ in ‘HD Radio’ is part of iBiquity Digital’s brand name for its digital AM and FM radio technology.
It does not mean either hybrid digital or high definition, it is simply the branding language for this new technology.
HD Radio broadcasting is free, there are no fees.
You can get digital AM and FM stations, including HD2 and HD3 multicast channels.
HD Radio broadcasting is your favorite local AM and FM stations broadcasting digitally, producing clean, sharp sound.
HD2 multicasting means more FM channels and new programming available from local FM stations.
iTunes Tagging lets you capture information about a song on the radio and store it on your iPod by pushing the "Tag" button on the HD Radio receiver. When your iPod is connected to iTunes, a list of tagged songs will appear which can be previewed, purchased, and downloaded.
