The Legacy is a line of cars
with 2 models: Legacy and Outback sharing the same body (wagon or
sedan).
There are many versions
of the Legacy and Outback.
To be technically correct,
the Legacys should be a Legacy Legacy and the Outback should be called
the Legacy Outback....
Legacy is the basic model,
starting with the Legacy 2.5i model, upgrading to the 2.5i Limited.
The Legacy GT is the 250hp
performance model, upgrading to the GT Limited.
Outback is the rugged road
model.
It starts out with the Outback
2.5i and has more features than the Legacy 2.5i.
The Outback 2.5i upgrades
to the Outback 2.5i Limited.
The Outback XT (or XT Limited)
is the 250hp performance version of the Outback, comparable to Legacy GT.
The 3.0R H6 LL Bean wagon
and VDC wagon and sedan are out top of the line models and they have the
250hp 3.0L 6 cylinder.
This is the 4th generation Legacy. 3rd was 2000-04, 2nd 1995-99, 1st was 1990-94. gone 4cylinder Outback Sedan; gone H6 Outback Sedan; gone H6 wagon; gone OnStar (was on LL Bean, VDC); Gone Weatherband stereo New
Destination charge now $575 (was $550)
New: Yes, the 05 Outback is classed as a light truck for CAFE fuel economy reasons. 'Cafe' stands Corporate Average Fuel Economy. This doesn't affect safety, economy or mean the car will tip over or be unsafe like a SUV. Many other vehicles are classed this way including Honda CRV, Dodge minivan, Toyota Rav4, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Honda Odyssey, Honda Element, Cadillac ESV, Chrysler Pacifica etc etc. Here is the official statement from Subaru. New
name Outback 2.5i & Outback 2.5i Limited replace Outback and Outback
Limited
My Impressions (if anyone cares) September 2004: trip on the Oregon Coast, with a variety of steady highway and then coast road speed-up/slow-down driving, averaged 27mpg in a 2.5i automatic. Good: the ride is quiet and
very solid and is should comfortable for road trips,
Bad (so I'm picky):
Idle thoughts: we need a real rugged road model- unpainted bumpers, bigger tires, vinyl washable floor/seats etc |
