Blind Spot Detection and Rear Vehicle Detection System standard on Limited and Touring, optional on Premium |
(first offered on the 2015 Outback and Legacy) standard on Limited and Touring, optional on Premium The Blind Spot Detection symbol is now in the outside mirror's housing and larger and brighter than previous models The Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection (SRVD) system uses two radar units, each mounted underneath the sheet metal immediately below the rear taillights. To help avoid damage, the radar units are purposely mounted above the typical bumper impact line. The radar units send out signals to detect vehicles behind and to each side of the Subaru vehicle, especially those vehicles that might not be visible in the rearview mirrors. Blind Spot Detection (BSD) detects a vehicle alongside and/or slightly to the rear of you, Lane Change Assist warns of vehicles approaching in the next lane, Rear Cross Traffic Alert warns of vehicles approaching when you're backing out of a parking spot. Lane Change Assist (LCA) looks for vehicles farther back in an adjacent lane – about 220 feet behind the Subaru vehicle. If the vehicle detected is approaching quickly – at a speed that could bring it alongside the Subaru vehicle within a few seconds – Lane Change Assist will illuminate a warning icon in the exterior mirror on that side. If the driver signals a lane change, the warning icon in the mirror will flash rapidly. Blind Spot Detection (BSD) is standard on Limiteds, optional on Premiums. It will illuminate a warning icon in the outside mirror's housing when it detects a vehicle alongside and behind the Subaru vehicle in an area of about 22 feet x 11 feet. If the driver signals a lane change to that side, the warning icon in the mirror will flash. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) uses the same radars and sensors to help detect vehicles that cannot be seen by the driver as they approach from either side. This is especially helpful when reversing from between two larger vehicles. The driver is alerted by a flashing icon in the appropriate exterior mirror, a flashing icon in the rear vision camera display, as well as an audible alert Standard on Limited and Touring, optional on Premium |
Eyesight Eyesight Eyesight |
Eyesight new for 2019- now standard on all 2019 Outbacks Eyesight uses two forward facing cameras to see the road ahead, and only works when they can 'see', so don't block the camera's views, put anything reflective on the dash, hang anything from the rear view mirror, or clean the dash so that it's shiny and reflects on the inside of the windshield. Replace the windshield wipers as necessary. The Eyesight cameras will turn off if the windshield fogs up or they can't see for any reason. Do not touch or try to clean the EyeSight camera lenses. It is important to use careful when cleaning the inside of the windshield because over-spray from spray cleaners may impair or damage the cameras’ lenses, which is not a warranty issue. This is the 5th year for the 3rd generation Eyesight on the Outback Eyesight has two small, forward facing cameras on either side of the rear view mirror. New for 2019- Eyesight is now standard on all Outbacks > LED headlights, Steering Responsive Standard on all Touring and included on Limited models with Option Pkg #24. Not available on Premiums. LED headlights have a clean bright light, Steering responsive turns the headlights slightly with the steering wheel. > Steering responsive fog lights are included on Premium with optional Eyesight. Not available on other models. > High Beam Assist- Standard on Touring and optional on Premium and Limited. Switches headlight high beams to low beams when it seen an approaching car when you have the high beams on (was new on 2017 models). Eyesight High Beam Assist sensor on Limited and Touring is now integrated into the Eyesight cameras. Premium models still have the large center sensor in front of the rear view mirror that was also on the 17 Limited and Touring > Lane Keep Assist uses the car's electric power steering to help keep the car in its lane at highway speeds over 40mph. (was new on the 2016 model) Note: this function has a steering wheel switch and can be turned on/off by the driver. When turned on, Lane Keep Assist will continue to be on when the car is re-started so no longer needs to be turned on each time the car is restarted (staying on was new starting on 2018s) > Active Cruise Control combines the benefits of cruise control with active monitoring of the road ahead. It issues warnings and activates automatic braking when needed. Adaptive Cruise Control can regulate vehicle speed in order to keep a safe following distance from the vehicle ahead. It does not replace conventional cruise control, which can still be used when desired. > Pre-Collision Braking can recognize an impending collision, alert the driver and automatically apply the brakes to help avoid a collision or minimize the impact when a collision is inevitable. > Pre-Collision Brake Assist- If Eyesight recognizes an impending collision and the driver is applying the brakes but not with enough force, Pre-Collision Brake Assist automatically applies up to full braking pressure in order to try to shorten braking distances. > Pre-Collision Throttle Management is designed to help prevent drivers from accelerating into a stopped vehicle or other obstacle in front of them. It warns the driver and reduces engine power until he or she applies the brakes to avoid an impact. > Lead Vehicle Start Alert is a helpful EyeSight feature that alerts the driver when his or her vehicle remains stopped after a vehicle in front has started to move away. > Lane Departure Warning alerts drivers when they unintentionally move out of their travel lane. It takes no corrective vehicle action other than issuing visual and audible warnings. > Lane Sway Warning acts in a similar way, detecting unusual back and forth vehicle movement within the lane of travel. Lane Departure Warning works at all speeds, while Lane Sway Warning only operates at speeds over 32 mph. Eyesight cars have three windshield washer squirters, with the middle one to clean in front of the cameras. The camera’s field of view is about 35 degrees horizontally from the center of the windshield. The camera’s field of vision extends up to about 360 feet in front of the vehicle, but objects very close to the vehicle may not be detected Eyesight works to recognize obstacles up to about a 30-mph (or less) speed differential. Essentially, EyeSight needs time to recognize an object or potential obstacle. If the speed difference between the EyeSight vehicle and the object is greater than up to 30 mph, the object will likely not be detected in time for Eyesight to stop the car, ie a car at 60mph running into a wall for example. At 60mph, by the time Eyesight sees and recognizes the stopped object, there wont be time or distance to fully stop the car. |
Reverse Automatic Braking | Reverse Automatic braking- standard on Touring models, included with Option Pkg #24 on Limited
models. Not available on Premium models. 4 sensors in the back bumper detect close objects when you're in reverse at very low speed (5mph or less). With a beep function as the object gets closer (was new on 2017 models) |
High Beam Assist |
Part of Eyesight. Standard on Touring, optional on Premium and Limited 'Auto' headlight setting. Detects outside light and will turn headlight high beams on when its dark enough and off when there's outside light (approaching cars, ambient light) etc The headlights must be on the 'auto' setting. Premium uses a separate sensor in front of the rear view mirror. Limited and Touring use the Eyesight cameras. |

In the event of an impact, the EDR will freeze data including how various systems were operating, for example if seatbelts were buckled, if the gas or brake pedals were pressed, and vehicle speed. No personal data is stored. To read data, special equipment is required. In addition to the vehicle manufacturer (Subaru), other parties such as law enforcement that have the equipment can read the information if they have access to the vehicle or EDR. Existing laws generally provide that information in an EDR is confidential and is the property of the owner of the motor vehicle. Information is accessed through the airbag system using a Subaru service computer. |

- Subaru Starlink connected call buttons are in the overhead console. In an emergency, you don't have to fumble looking for a phone, dialing a number, or even know where you are. Just reach up and tap the button! Note- this system does NOT work if the car's battery is dead, so in the event of a dead battery or an accident where the battery is dislodged, have your cellphone handy because the Starlink won't work. - |
