Why do I want all wheel
drive? I live in a dry warm climate.
All wheel drive is a full
time traction system that is effective on dry as well as slick roads and
helps maintain stability and control under most conditions.
It is a benefit in all driving
conditions but of course especially any area where there is snow or rain
including the Northwest, Northeast, Midwest.
The BRZ is Subaru's only rear wheel drive car. It has a Limited slip rear
axle. Introduced in 2012, it's built by Subaru but was was co-designed
by Toyota and is also sold in the US as the Scion FR-S
Is there an CUV or SUV?
from small to large: Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, and Tribeca.
Is there a mini-van?
No.
The Tribeca is a 7 passenger
Is there a Hybrid
Yes,
hopefully in 2013 as a 2014 model. No details are available. In the meantime the 2013 Impreza
2.0i gets 27/36 MPG and the Legacy gets 23/31
Is there a Diesel
Yes
but it is not available in the US.
2.0L Diesels with a manual
transmission are available in other countries but not the US or Canada.
Why?
The potential US market
for a Subaru diesel is small and Subaru is working on other technologies.
Few diesels actually do
well in the US. A gallon of diesel is frequently more expensive than a
gallon of gas.
Diesel in the US isn't as
refined as other parts of the world and the newer, cleaner burning and
quieter diesel engines don't run our stuff.
Subaru diesels around the
world are a 2.0L with a manual transmission - no automatic transmission.
That won't work here... It would have to be auto.
Diesel engines cost a lot
to make and the price of the car would be high.
Subaru is partnered with
Toyota, the hybrid leader, and they don't do diesel here.

XV Crosstrek : 2013 model year
all new model first introduced late summer, 2013
This new 5 door hatchback crossover is a branch of the Impreza line but will be marketed separately.
It uses the Impreza's 148hp 2.0L engine and transmissions, but
has 8.7" of ground clearance, a wider track, various fender and
bumper flares.
The models are
2.0i Premium with 5 speed manual
2.0i Premium with CVT
2.0i Limited with CVT
BRZ : 2013 model year
available March 2012
An all new, small, rear wheel drive 2 door sports car built by Subaru,
co-designed with Toyota, and also sold as a Scion here in the US
An all new 2.0i engine and platform was built for this model.
This is Subaru's only rear drive vehicle.
Introduced in March, the supply of BRZs is very tight with app only 7000 available for the entire year.
The models are
Premium with 6 speed manual, or 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters
Limited with 6 speed manual, or 6 speed automatic with paddle shifters
Forester : 2013 model year
available July 2012
(note- a redesigned, all new 2014 will be available early 2013)
The base 2.5X model gets cell phone bluetooth, upgraded stereo with USB, aux jack, wireless audio streaming
A completely redesigned 2014 Forester is expected in early Spring 2013
The 2013 models are
2.5L X, X Premium,
X Limited, and X Touring.
2.5L XT turbo Premium and Touring.
Outback
: 2013 model year
available starting early July.
The 2013s get an mild but important make-over.
All models get an upgraded, stiffer suspension for improved handling,
and steering improvements with a slightly heavier steering feel
All models get a redesigned front grill, redesigned fog lights and bumper, redesigned alloy wheels.
Limited model plastic wood trim has been replaced with a pale red matte finish plastic wood trim.
The Navigation system is new to the Outback- it was previously used in the the 2012 Forester and Imprezas.
The 2.5L engine and CVT transmission
have both been replaced for the 2013 model. The engine is the DOHC
version first used in the 2011 Forester. It has a timing chain instead
of belt and slight more power. The CVT is the 2nd generation
Lineartronic CVT first used in the 2012 Impreza. It is lighter, quieter
and slightly more responsive than the CVT used in the 2010-2012
Outbacks.
There is no change for the 3.6L or 5 speed automatic transmission
2 new packages
> Special Appearance Package #23, available on the Limited models,
includes saddle brown leather, dark plastic wood trim, pushbutton
keyless start, power memory driver's seat, turn signals in the outside
mirrors, silver accent door handles, mirrors and front grill. Requires
the moonroof and Navigation system. Only available in black, white, and
new Brilliant Brown (very dark).
> Eyesight Drive Assistance Package #20, available on the Limited
models only. Eyesight is Subaru's all new for the US active cruise
control system. It used 2 forward facing cameras to monitor and maintain
a safe distance from the car in front when using cruise control. It
includes lane sway and departure warning, and helps activate the brakes
in the event an object appears and an impact is imminent.
Colors- new Venetian Red color replaces Ruby Red Pearl and is available in either gray or beige interior.
New Twilight blue replaces sky blue and is available in either gray or beige interior
