1992 was the first and 1997 was the last year for the SVX model. A total of 14,257 were built. That's not very many.
The SVX was the successor to the 1985-1990 XT and XT6 coupe models.
Along the way there were really very few changes - the most obvious was adding front wheel drive for 1994-1995 and then dropping it in 1996. Various years had slightly different grills, colors, colors schemes (coordinating the rear bumper and roof line). It was designed by Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was known as the Alcyone SVX except in the US.

In early 1990s pre-production literature, Subaru talked about an advanced SVX "Active Safety" concept vehicle with a voice operation system for hands free control of the air conditioning, audio, telephone and navigation systems, a self-activating, temperature sensitive heated coating inside the windshield to prevent frost from occurring (like some early 1990s Fords), a 4 wheel steering system, active suspension and etc. The SVX was high-tech but these ideas didn't make it to final production

Subarus are full time All-Wheel-Drive (except for a few 94-95 models). That means the SVX is a superb handling luxury performance coupe you can drive year-round.
The SVX is very solid and very stylish with a full assortment of safety, luxury and power features.

Passengers are protected in a compartment of 'box section" steel, there are steel beams inside the doors. Front and rear roof pillars have steel stiffening lines bonded inside. There are front and rear deformable sections. All the sheet steel is zinc galvanized to prevent rust. The hood is designed to bend when hit in the front. All Subaru engines are low profile boxer design and drop under the car in front end impacts.

Operating instructions for the remote entry and alarm. (from SOA instruction owner instruction sheet)

When activated the SVX security system helps protect your car and valuables from intrusion and theft by sounding the horn, flashing the lights, and interrupting the starter circuit.

Turning the system on and off. With the ignition turned off, press the dashboard on/off switch marked 'security'. The system is on when the lighted switch flashes, and off when the light is out.

• Operation by Remote transmitter.
• When leaving the car, ensure the on/off switch is on and flashing. Close all doors and trunk
• To arm the system and lock the doors, push the remote transmitter button until the car signals 'armed' with one beep of the horn and one flash of the lights
• To disarm the system and unlock the doors, push the remote transmitter until the car signals two beeps and two flashes of the lights.
• If the system is armed with the remote it should be disarmed with the remote. If not, open the door with the key and stop the alarm by turning on the ignition.
• Operation without remote transmitter
• To arm the system when leaving the car ensure the on/off switch is on and flashing, and doors and trunk closed.
• Depress the inside driver's door lock or lock door with the key
• System is automatically armed and locks any unlocked doors 20 seconds after the last door/trunk closes
• To disarm the system, unlock either door, enter car and tun on ignition
• Audible reminder countdown inside car signals impending alarm activation until ignition is turned on (20 seconds)

• Turning off the alarm
• Press remote transmitter until the alarm stops or turn on the ignition with the key
• Panic Mode. The alarm may be set off to draw attention to an emergency situation
• To activate: depress remote transmitter for at least 6 seconds. The horn sounds a warning note after 2 seconds until the full alarm sounds
• To stop the panic alarm. Press and hold the transmitter until the alarm stops or use the key to turn on the ignition.
• Keyless entry. Even with the security turned off, lock or unlock the doors by depressing the transmitter. The horn will confirm the action with multiple short beeps
